Analyses of estimates of sea surface salinity in a 2-km resolution model of the eastern Bering Sea performed by Dr. S. Durski shows on-shelf transport of salinity from the area of Bering Canyon and its slow entrainment farther east. Fish larvae may potentially be transported to settlement areas on the Bering Sea shelf using the same transport mechanism. Shown is sea surface height (SSS), Jul-Aug 2009, w/ 1-hr temporal resolution. Contours show bathymetry of Bering Canyon (1000,500,200,100 and 50m). .
